NEPHI -- A car caught fire and its driver was arrested Tuesday morning after a high-speed chase through Utah and Juab Counties.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon from the Utah County Sheriff's Office said the chase began when a UCSO detective noticed a vehicle traveling over 100 mph on southbound I-15 in Orem.
The detective tried to initiate a traffic stop around mile marker 270, but the driver refused to stop. Other UCSO vehicles joined in the pursuit and officers placed spikes in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
After the tires were spiked, the vehicle continued southbound at speeds between 70-90 mph. The vehicle stopped in the Nephi area and caught fire. The driver was taken into custody.
Cannon said the suspect was not cooperative and deputies were having difficulty identifying her.
