LAKE POWELL – The family of a 5-year-old boy killed in a boating accident on Lake Powell Friday released a statement Tuesday.
National Parks Service officials said 5-year-old Keaton Howard was riding on the bow of the boat when it hit a wave, and Keaton fell overboard. Keaton, who was wearing a life jacket, was hit and killed by the boat’s propeller.
The statement from the family can be read below:
“The Howard family, including extended family and friends, are saddened at
this tragedy. Our hearts are broken as we mourn at this time of trial.
We love Keaton and his bright personality! He was and is our little man! As
a family of faith, we take comfort in our knowledge of God¹s love for him
and for us. We continue to love him and pray for peace and comfort for all
who knew him. As we mourn together, we find joy in remembering the light he
is in our lives.
At this time, we request privacy to grieve the loss of our son, brother,
grandson, cousin, friend, and neighbor. We appreciate, in advance, your
consideration and respect for our family.
For those that would like to honor Keaton, in lieu of flowers, a children’s
book donation to American Heritage school, would help keep Keaton’s love of
books alive. American Heritage is located at 736 N. 1100 E., American Fork,
UT. Their summer office hours are 9 am to 1 pm, Monday thru Friday.”
