COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah – A portion of the ceiling in a church owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints collapsed.
Police said about a third of the sheet rock in the gymnasium fell 30 to 40 feet to the floor below. The church is located at 8170 Short Hills Drive.
There wasn’t anyone inside the church at the time, and there weren’t any injuries reported.
A building inspector said the collapse may have been caused by past water damage, but the cause has not yet been determined.
Members of the wards that meet in the church will hold their sacrament services in a neighboring building until the repairs are complete.
