SALT LAKE CITY – One person was hospitalized after a stabbing at a Salt Lake City Smith’s and the suspect is still on the loose.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal says two 17-year-old boys got into a fight in the parking lot at the Smith’s located at 845 East and 4500 South in Salt Lake City at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. During that fight, one of the boys stabbed the other in the upper body.

The victim was in the parking lot with two friends buying fireworks when the suspect and two other people arrived.

“They began eyeballing each other, and a physical fight broke out between all six of them,” Hoyal said.

The suspects got into a black Dodge Durango and tried to run down the victims in the parking lot, but missed, then fled.

The victim of the stabbing was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

All three suspects are Hispanic in their late teens. The stabbing suspect was wearing a white tank top, plaid shorts and had tattoos down his back.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
