New pet adoption center opens in Sugar House

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY – Best Friends Animal Society opened their new pet adoption center in Sugar House Saturday, and they held a cutting the leash ceremony rather than slicing the traditional ribbon.

The new Best Friends Animal Society Pet Adoption Center is located at 2005 South and 1100 East.

Gregory Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society, said Sugar House is the perfect location for the center, which will house a daily average of 20 dogs and 40 cats.

“Well, Sugar House is a very pet friendly community, and in this location there’s a lot of foot traffic, which always helps,” he said. “It’s very easily exposed to the public, and the public makes it very easy to come and adopt animals.”

Officials said their goal is to adopt 600 pets out of the center in its first year. According to a press release from the center, the newly renovated facility is 10,000 square feet and will include office space for about 30 employees.

Visitors to the center can adopt pets and find free or low-cost resources for spaying and neutering pets. The center will also sell pet supplies at a small retail store.
