Workers divert water from Alpine neighborhood affected by flooding

Posted

ALPINE — Heavy rain in the area of the burn scar left by last year’s Quail Fire led to the flooding of a home in Alpine.

Workers used a backhoe to dig a trench to divert water away from Grove Drive, where the flooding occurred.

“The city made some diversion dams and some […] debris basins so that they could control that water,” said Battalion Chief Joe McRae, Lone Peak Fire Department. “The water almost crested one of those basins and it did subside.”

Crews worked into the early morning hours Wednesday to clean out the basins, making room for more water in case any further storms occur.
