SOUTH JORDAN -- While some students still have another month or so of summer vacation, thousands of students in the Jordan School District are back in class for the 2013-2014 school year.

Students and teachers at the district's 19 "year-round" schools are given a rotating schedule, where they spend about 45 days in class, followed by 15 days off.

Meredith Doleac, principal at Monte Vista Elementary School in South Jordan, offered some advice for parents to help their kids through the back-to-school transition.

"I think, for parents, the best thing you can do is support your student at home, get them to school, get them off to a good start, let them know that it's going to be fun and a great opportunity for them to learn and grow and that they have lots of people here at the school who care about them," Doleac said.

School officials want to remind drivers to watch out for students crossing the street.
