Utahns challenged to cut down on crime

SALT LAKE CITY -- Residents are celebrating Utah’s Night Out Against Crime Tuesday night.

Salt Lake City mayor and police chief are challenging Utahns to help cut down on crime.

Mayor Ralph Becker and Chief Chris Burbank talked about residential burglaries at Westpointe Park Tuesday. They are up 25 percent from last year.

The city leaders encouraged the public to take steps to reduce that number.

“If in fact if each one of us would take a little responsibility and a little more time to close and lock our doors make sure were not leaving iPads and purses in cars - we can reduce crime by 25 percent with little to now effort,” Burbank said.
