WANSHIP — A Wanship man fought to protect his home with a garden hose as a wildfire rages in Summit County.

Russ Mosley watched three homes destroyed by the fire. He wet down a propane tank and the surrounding area around his house as the flames crept closer to the residence.

As of about 4:45 p.m. fire crews were able to save Mosley’s home.

Mosley told a Fox 13 News reporter that he was “scared, emotional, but I can’t leave.”

The blaze may be started by lightning.

The fire was ignited at approximately 1 p.m. It has grown to 400 acres by 4 p.m.

Residents of the Rockport Estates neighborhood were the first to be evacuated, followed by Sunrise Loop in Promontory and the Bridgehollow subdivision.
