SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a Provo man accused of murdering his aunt.
Damien Candland pleaded guilty to the 2010 murder of his aunt, Amy Candland. Police said at the time that she had been beaten, raped and strangled.
Damien Candland entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to life in prison. The day after, he filed a handwritten appeal claiming that he was “confused” when he entered the plea.
In its ruling, the Utah Supreme Court said Candland knowingly and voluntarily pleaded guilty, upholding his conviction and sentence.
