KANE COUNTY, Utah — A West Jordan woman died Monday while rappelling in southern Utah.
Kane County officers said in a press release that 19-year-old Shelby Collette Christensen died after falling while rappelling in the Birch Hollow area in Kane County.
Officers said Christensen was hiking and rappelling with four other people. They said three people in the party had completed a rappel, and were waiting at the bottom of the ledge for Christensen. Deputies said it appears her hand got trapped between the rope and rock ledge and she let go, falling 120 feet to the bottom of the ledge.
Police said this is the third rappelling related accident at Birch Hollow this summer.
