SANDY -- Police have released a surveillance video that shows a woman who allegedly tried to use a credit card taken from a couple who were attending a funeral.
The surveillance video was taken at a Midvale Walmart store, not far from the LDS church where the funeral was held.
Lex Madsen said he and his wife were already grieving when they left the church and found their car had been burglarized. An iPhone, a driver's license, checkbook and credit cards were missing from the vehicle.
"They planned this out. This is something that was calculated," Madsen said.
Police said the suspect tried to use one of the victims' credit cards at Walmart, but the card had already been flagged as stolen.
"So they made two attempts and didn't get anything on their two attempts, but what we got was really good video," said Det. Ken Hansen, Unified Police Department.
Hansen said the suspect tried to hide herself from surveillance cameras, but she has a fairly distinctive appearance and someone will probably be able to make a good guess about her identity.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call police at (801) 840-4000.
