SALT LAKE CITY – The Camp Williams Readiness Center was rededicated Saturday to honor a fallen soldier.
The center was renamed the 2LT Scott B. Lundell Readiness Center; Lundell died in Afghanistan in 2006 while serving with the Utah Army Guard’s I Corps Artillery.
Lundell was sent to Afghanistan to provide training and support to members of the Afghan national army. He was killed when enemy forces attacked his patrol. Fellow soldiers said the ceremony is a great way to honor Lundell’s memory.
“The Camp Williams Readiness Center is utilized by thousands of soldiers every year, and every soldier and citizen now that enters the Scott Lundell Readiness Center will acknowledge and remember his sacrifice and his contributions to the freedom of this nation,” said Lt. Col. Steven Fairbourn, who is the S3 of the 65th Fire Brigade.
The unit Lundell served in was reorganized and renamed the 65th Fire Brigade in 2008.
Lundell’s family members were present for the dedication. Lundell leaves behind a wife and four children.
