SALT LAKE CITY – The world’s largest sheepdog trial competition is taking place in Utah this weekend, and the highly trained dogs will be demonstrating their skills.
Handlers and their animals are competing by herding wild-range sheep at the Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic.
Event Director Mark Petersen said there is something for everyone at the competition, and he said the event is really all about the relationship between the dogs and their handlers.
“It’s an age old relationship that’s been going on for probably thousands of years,” he said. “And this is what it has developed to, a highly refined relationship between man and dog where they are communicating with each other with whistles, often a mile away.”
The event continues through Labor Day and has multiple events going on each day. For more information about the event, click here.
