Walmart security guard injured by theft suspect

SALT LAKE CITY — A security guard was injured during an alleged retail theft situation at a Salt Lake City Walmart Friday.

Officers said it happened at a Walmart located near 1800 South and 300 West.

According to police, security officers were trying to detain a 29-year-old male theft suspect when the suspect pulled out a folding pocket knife and slashed a security guard on the arm.

The security guard suffered a minor injury, and is expected to be OK.

The suspect was taken into custody by Salt Lake City Police, and will now face an aggravated robbery charge.
