SANDY -- A man who fell nearly 150 feet in a Sandy canyon was rescued Monday night and airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center.

The hiker, age 23, fell at the Waterfall in Bell Canyon at approximately 3:30 p.m. An airmed helicopter pilot deemed it unsafe to hoist the injured man out due to winds and the weight of the victim, officials said Monday evening.

The man appears to have sustained a broken arm and leg, police officials said.

More information will be provided on this story as it becomes available.
