Driverless truck crashes, rolls on its side

Posted

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — Police said the owner of a pickup truck left it in neutral and got out without setting the parking brake, and the vehicle rolled downhill and through a neighborhood before crashing.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. near 2300 Castle Hill Road, and police said it was a miracle no one was hit by the vehicle.

The truck rolled on its side after hitting a curb, and it was damaged and had to be towed. Sgt. Mark Askerlund of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department said they are determining whether or not to give the man a citation.

Askerlund said it was fortunate the accident didn’t happen later in the afternoon, as there would have been many children in the streets walking home from the nearby Brighton High School.
