HOBBLE CREEK CANYON, Utah – A teen girl was taken to a hospital in critical condition after an all-terrain vehicle accident Sunday.

Dispatchers received reports of a crash in the Left Hand Fork area of Hobble Creek Canyon around 5:45 p.m., and the caller reported that three teens had crashed on a side-by-side style ATV.

Deborah Benedict, 17, of Hobble Creek Canyon suffered serious head and facial injuries during the crash. She was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in critical condition, according to a press release from the Utah County Sherriff’s Office.

A 15-year-old boy and another teen female, whose age was not disclosed, sustained minor injuries in the crash. According to the release, the wreck occurred when the 15-year-old boy driving the ATV lost control and the vehicle tipped over. The ATV slid more than 100 feet before coming to a stop.

Investigators said they do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the wreck, but they said speed likely contributed to the crash.
