SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Department of Environmental Quality has launched a website that allows the public to learn about environmental spills.
The public portion of the database is designed to share information about spills, including responding agencies, the material spilled, what has been impacted and any closures caused by the spill.
Donna Kemp Spangler, communication director for the Department of Environmental Quality, said the website will help them organize responses to spills.
“If someone sees an incident like an oil spill, they can contact the environmental response and remediation,” she said. “We have a hotline, and we can report that information. We take the information then we coordinate the response.”
DEQ officials said the site will allow them to better coordinate with other agencies, like health departments and emergency responders.
