SALT LAKE CITY – A new report issued by the Utah Department of Workforce Services indicates poverty is an ongoing issue in many Utah families.
The study demonstrated that 24 percent of adults who are on welfare in Utah were also on welfare as children.
Carrie Mayne is the chief economist with the Department of Workforce Services, and she said they are trying to break the cycle of poverty.
“Our goal is to change policy, adjust policy, design policy so we can lift them up out of this cycle of welfare dependence,” she said. “We want to give them the tools for self-sufficiency.”
