SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in critical condition after a crash on I-80 Friday morning.
The Utah Highway Patrol said a semitrailer hauling crude oil hit a barrier on the I-80 eastbound off ramp to I-15 southbound and 600 South.
Investigators said they believe the male driver of the semitrailer got out of the truck after the collision, and then walked behind the crash scene where he was possibly hit by another vehicle.
Officers said the man was found on the left side shoulder of the highway, and his injuries are consistent with having been involved in an auto-ped crash.
The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Officers said the vehicle that may have hit the man did not stop at the scene, and there has been no contact from anyone stating that they were involved in the incident.
Drivers were being diverted to the 600 North exit to access I-15 and Salt Lake City while crews worked to clean up the crash. The roadways were open as usual several hours later.
UHP is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them at 801-887-3800.
