SALT LAKE CITY – Utah’s largest wildlife hunt of the year kicked off Saturday morning with the opening of the general rifle deer hunt.
The season opened Saturday and will continue until Oct. 27, and Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources said an estimated 60,000 hunters, along with their families and friends, were expected to hit Utah's forests and hills as the season opens.
Many hunters will admit the sport can be hit or miss, but a few hunters leaving East Canyon Saturday had definitely hit.
“He was just standing there 300 yards away, so I decided to take him,” hunter Rodger Thackeray said. “Shot him behind the shoulder. One shot and he was done.”
Conservation officers were out and about, making sure hunters had the proper permits and tags. For more information about the deer hunt, visit the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources’ website.
