Bed bugs bring about closure of entire University of Utah library

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY – The J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah was closed Saturday and will be closed again Sunday after bed bugs were found, and the closure came shortly after a single floor had been closed due to the pests.

School officials said Friday that the third floor of the library had been closed after someone reported bed bugs in some chairs and health inspectors later confirmed the presence of the pests.

On Saturday, a notice was posted on the library that indicated the building was closed for the weekend and that level one only would be open Monday. According to the notice, “…pest control professionals have identified bed bugs on levels 1, 2, and 3 of the Marriott Library.”

The notice indicated the pests were confined to soft seating areas. Level 1 will be treated so it can be opened Monday for scheduled classes. The library is expected to be fully open Tuesday.
