PARLEYS CANYON, Utah — One person is in critical condition after a vehicle accident in Parleys Canyon Wednesday morning.
Officers said the accident happened around 7:45 a.m., and it involved three vehicles.
Police said one vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-80 when it crashed off the left side of the road. A second vehicle pulled over to assist the driver of the crashed vehicle. While trying to help, the driver of the second vehicle was hit by a third vehicle that slid on the road and lost control.
Sgt. Steven Manful of the Utah Highway Patrol said the man’s desire to help was praiseworthy, but he said such actions aren’t worth risking injury or death.
“You know it is good to stop and help out, but on roads like this, the safest place for you is in your car,” he said.
The person who was hit suffered head trauma and was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in critical condition. No other injuries have been reported.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, and authorities urged motorists to slow down and use caution when roads are wet or slick.
