Robbery suspect dies of injuries several days after alleged crime

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A man who was subdued and injured by the owners of a home he allegedly attempted to rob in West Valley City Wednesday died of his injuries Friday.

Police said 29-year-old Robert Ebere was one of three armed men who allegedly tried to rob a residence near 7100 W. Chula Drive early Wednesday morning.

According to a press release from the West Valley City Police Department, the homeowners subdued the armed assailant and rendered him unconscious. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition Wednesday, and officials said he died Friday of his injuries at about 12:21 p.m.

Official said the robbery appears to be a drug rip. According to the press release, detectives located a weapon in the residence. After obtaining a warrant, detectives searched the residence and found about 9 pounds of cocaine and a “large amount of US currency.” Several vehicles were also seized after the search.
