UTAH COUNTY, Utah – A woman died Wednesday night after she fell nearly 40 feet while hiking at Bridal Veil Falls.

Officers said the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. as 20-year-old Kaitlin Keeney and her friend, Emilee Anderson, were hiking near the second tier area of Bridal Veil Falls.

Police said Keeney slipped while hiking and fell an estimated 40 feet. From that point, it took search and rescue crews a long time to reach her due in part to the rugged terrain.

Lt. Rice of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said Keeney sustained serious head injuries in the fall, and died from those injuries before medical crews could reach her.

Investigators said there doesn't appear to be anything suspicious involved.
