CACHE COUNTY, Utah – Authorities in Smithfield are searching for a suspect or suspects who shot as many as seven hawks during the last week.

Conservation Officer Chris Schulze of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said a number of the shootings took place in the same area.

“Most of the shootings occurred near 400 west, which is a busy road,” he said in a press release. “We’re encouraging people to be observant and aware, and if they witness something suspicious to contact us.”

DWR officials said they believe all of the poached birds were killed with a small caliber firearm. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact detectives at (435) 760-5910. Callers can also contact the Utah Turn in a Poacher Hotline at (801) 662-3337.
