SALT LAKE CITY – Downtown Salt Lake City is undergoing a rush of decorating as the Christmas season approaches, and a local hotel is putting the finishing touches on their window displays.
Artists and designers have five days to put the final touches on the Grand America Hotel’s holiday display.
Production designer Dennis Wardle said it’s a festive atmosphere.
“It's a bit like being an elf," he said. “...We are painting up some custom ray guns for the kids, the elves are getting all ready."
About half of the 13 windows that make up the display are ready to be unwrapped, but several others are still a work in progress. Lead Production Artist Monte Blunk said it’s a fun project to work on.
“My favorite part is when you do bring the final details together in the window,” he said. “Like the vehicles the elves are riding this year, they help create a little focus and pulls the whole story together. Whereas, if you didn't have that last little part, it doesn't tell me the full story.”
The displays will be unveiled after Thanksgiving. FOX 13 News’ Ashton Goodell took a look at some of the displays as they were being made, check out the video above for details.
