ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The St. George Municipal Airport was closed Saturday evening as severe weather struck across Utah, and other closures and cancellations were also in effect.

FOX 13 News' Zach Whitney reports Brigham Road is closed from I-15 to Hidden Valley Road and that local LDS Church wards are cancelling worship services Sunday. The St. George Sun Tran system has shut down for Saturday night due to poor driving conditions.

According to the City of St. George's Facebook page: "The St. George Municipal Airport is now closed and is expected to resume flights at some point tomorrow [Sunday]. Please check with SkyWest/Delta on flight information and for updates."

Marissa Snow with SkyWest Airlines said their airline has canceled their Saturday night flights into the airport because of the closure.

The St. George City Police Department posted a warning to drivers in the area on their Facebook page:

"After a full day of steady snow, at approximately 6 p.m. St. George was hit with a heavy wave of snow. Most all roads in town have been blanketed with several inches. Traffic on the main arterial roadways kept the snow from accumulating. Those roads remained slushy into the later evening hours. Secondary roads remain snow packed.

AVOID hills like FOREMASTER DR, TONAQUINT DRIVE'S hill between Bloomington and the Southgate area, BRIGHAM ROAD, or any other roadway with a steep grade. Roads will be icy and hazardous as the night progresses.

Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. St. George Police Dispatch received 10 reports of accidents around town and vehicles in all areas of town were having difficulty getting around.

Please avoid travelling unless it is necessary and plan for extra time as you travel."

FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
