Kids in need shop with cops during the holidays

Posted

CEDAR CITY — The 13th annual Shop With A Cop event was held Saturday in Cedar City, and local officers from various agencies stepped in to help out.

The event is a long-standing tradition that pairs needy children with uniformed officers to buy Christmas wish list items–all purchased with donated funds.

Jacob Miner is a volunteer firefighter in Cedar City who participated in the program, and he said it’s always gratifying to see how many people support the cause each year.

“It’s like you forget til the next year,” he said. “You see not only the agencies come together, but we’ve got a group of folks wrapping presents that all volunteered.”

Children are encouraged to use the donated money to buy gifts for themselves as well as for their family members, but officers said many children only want to give to others rather than receive.
