PROVO, Utah — A truck carrying animal fats spilled its load on the roadway, forcing a road closure on a section of U.S. 189 Saturday afternoon.
A Utah Highway Patrol representative said it happened just after 3 p.m. in the southbound lanes near the mouth of Provo Canyon. Lanes in both directions were closed as a result of the spill.
The road was open again by 6 p.m.
An estimated 150-200 gallons of animal fats spread over a 200 yard area, creating what was described as an ice rink-like surface.
The spill was not considered hazardous material.
