New Year’s Eve event fills Salt Palace to capacity

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY – Event organizers are calling their three-day New Year’s Eve celebration a rousing success after crowds packed the downtown area and welcomed in the new year.

The event is put on each year by the Downtown Alliance, and this was the fifth year.

Nick Como of the Downtown Alliance said Utahns packed the Salt Palace for the event.

“This EVE is one of the best, if not the best, EVE celebration attendance wise,” he said. “When the clock struck midnight and the fireworks went off, we had a capacity crowd at the Salt Palace. Throughout the night there were just so many people in the bounce house and in the ballroom, it was just a fantastic night and we had a lot of fun."

This year’s celebration included a Comic Con themed costume contest as well as a partnership with the Utah Jazz. Tickets to certain Jazz games doubled as tickets to EVE, which event organizers believe boosted attendance.
