New electronic speed limit signs put to test in Parleys Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY -- The speed limit in Parleys Canyon will now change with the weather.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers said Wednesday's snow storm was a good test for the new electronic speed limit signs in the canyon. They said they had to lower the speed limit several times due to slick roads.

Troopers said the signs are good tools to remind people to slow down in poor weather conditions.

"These signs will help us up in the canyon to adjust... and advise motorists that the speed limit should be a lot lower, and you should be traveling at a lower rate of speed in order to travel through the canyon safely," Lt. Jeff Nighbur said.

Parleys Canyon will be divided into four zones. Each of the zones will have the same speed limit so drivers aren't constantly slowing down and speeding up.
