(CNN) TENNESSEE – a 12-year-old girl in Tennessee wrote a letter to her future self she planned to read ten years later, but her life was unexpectedly cut short. Her parents later found the letter, and they said its contents have given them comfort.

Taylor Smith died January 5 due to complications from pneumonia, and her parents, Tim and Ellen, were heartbroken.

Taylor’s mom found the letter, which was sealed along with the words “To be opened by Taylor Smith on April 13, 2023, only – unless said otherwise.”

The couple said the letter has given them hope, and Tim says he knows he can trust and love God because it is clear that his daughter loved and trusted God.

"Right now it's easy for me to trust God because I know that my baby girl trusted him," he said.
