Man who survived avalanche shares his story

OGDEN, Utah – A man who broke multiple bones after he was caught in an avalanche spoke about the avalanche and his rescue.

Matt Morgan was in an avalanche near the border between Utah and Idaho Saturday, and he triggered the avalanche while riding a snowmobile.

“I remember seeing the snow come down on both sides of me in my peripheral vision,” he said.

Morgan said he was the first in his group to head down the mountain, and he said the event was triggered when he was about two-thirds of the way to the bottom.

Morgan said he was buried under two feet of snow for about 10 minutes before his friends were able to find him. Morgan said the safety gear they brought along helped speed up his rescue, and he said the fact they had practiced with the gear helped.

He broke both of his femurs and his left arm, and he is being treated at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden.
