OGDEN, Utah – Police officials in Ogden said they will soon be issuing citations to drivers who leave their cars running and unattended, and they said the decision is designed to reduce auto thefts.

Ogden police officials said that in the last three months, 36 of the 82 car thefts that were reported were regarding vehicles that had been left running or unattended. Another 34 vehicles were left unlocked.

The Ogden Police Department said they will issue citations with a fee of $40 for those who leave their cars unattended while running.
