SALT LAKE CITY — A bill that would allow speed limits to be raised on many Utah interstates cruised through the House Transportation Committee Wednesday.
The proposed bill would allow the speed limit on Utah interstates to be raised to 80 mph in areas that are deemed safe, and speed limits for urban freeways could be raised from the current limit of 65 mph to either 70 or 75 mph.
Utah began experimenting with 80 mph stretches of freeway about 5 years ago, and officials said raising the speed limit did not lead to more traffic accidents.
