SALT LAKE CITY -- A new committee will be formed under the new ordinance amendments forhorse-drawn carriage businessregulations in Utah.

The committee will evaluate and recommend changes to the council, including fees, temperature range, the age of horses, random drug testing for drivers and other rules.

The committee will be meeting quarterly and the amendments will also require carriage companies to provide information to the public about operation and how the horses are cared for.

Charlie Luke, A Salt Lake City Council member, said it's an issue that has drawn a lot of attention and the new committee will be able to address some of the public's concerns.

"It still has to go through us, but... they'll be able to dig into some of these issues," he said. "We've put a lot of work into this issue, and it is a very complicated issue, and we've had more comment from the public on this issue than almost any other issue that we had last year."
