SALT LAKE CITY – An organization brought together volunteers in order to provide free dental care to children whose families couldn’t otherwise afford dental care.
Give Kids A Smile put the event together, and it was held at Salt Lake Community College.
A mixture of dental hygienists, students and other volunteers cleaned teeth, gave X-rays and provided other dental care.
Lynne Berman, program director for dental hygiene at SLCC, said they hope to teach kids to care for their teeth.
“This is a chronic epidemic that is preventable, and so prevention and education is the key to educating these families and the children so they can have better oral hygiene,” Berman said.
This is the eleventh year the event has been held, and each year about 250 to 300 children are treated.
