SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced Tuesday that a Unified Police officer’s use of deadly force against a fraud suspect was justified.

On Feb. 6, Michael J. Joseph, 33, allegedly fired shots at police officers after he attempted to carry out fraud at a bank.

At the time of the alleged crime, police said Joseph fired at officers using a “high-capacity machine pistol.”

During the shooting, Unified Police Officer Dustin Olzack returned fire. Click here for more details about the shooting.

After reviewing the incident, Gill said Olzack’s use of deadly force was justified under Utah law.
