GOSHEN, Utah — A man is charged with DUI after police said he ran over his mother Tuesday night.

Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said officers responded to the accident in Goshen, which is at the south end of Utah County.

Deputies said Douglas B. Herring, 19, was trying to drive away from his mom and dad’s house after an argument. They said Herring refused to stop, and that’s when his mother fell and was run over by his truck.

Cannon said Herring was arrested after he showed signs of unusual behavior usually associated with drug or alcohol use.

“He had consumed alcohol,” Cannon said. “They did some blood and urine tests and preliminary indications are that he may have been under the influence of methamphetamine, and he has been arrested for felony DUI for causing a serious injury accident.”

Herring’s mother was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center by medical helicopter. She is expected to be OK.
