Posted

OGDEN, Utah -- When you think chariot racing -- ancient Romans come to mind or maybe movies like "Gladiator" or "Ben Hur."

What you might not know is chariot racing hasn't gone way; it's a niche sport with a core group of fans.

The chariot racers run against each other and the clock. The best racers at the Chariot Racing State Championship ran the 440 yard sprint in 21 to 22 seconds.

"These races are separated by 100ths of a second on the finishing line: It's exciting," Fan Jim Marsh said.

The fastest teams move on to the world championship, which will be held at the Golden Spike Arena in Ogden at the end of March.
