KAYSVILLE, Utah – A Utah mother of six was recently nominated for a national award that recognizes mothers who can’t be stopped, and her story is being featured in a web episode of "LIVE with Kelly and Michael."
“As a little girl I always wanted to be a mom, Said Jodi Sorensen, who was nominated in the“Unstoppable Mom” Contest.
When Jodi was in high school, she went with her older sister when she adopted a child.
“At that time, I decided I wanted to adopt and have biological children but definitely adopt,” Sorensen said.
Jodi and her husband first adopted two children, then they decided to try to conceive. But doctors told the couple it wouldn’t be possible for Jodi to get pregnant.
“When I found out, it wasn't that big of a deal because I already had two children and I was already a mom,” Sorensen said.
The Sorensen family adopted four more children. Making Jodi a mother of six kids, all with mental disabilities, two of them with Down syndrome.
Last month, Jodi's aunt, Joyce, was watching "LIVE with Michael and Kelly" on FOX 13, and when she learned about the contest she nominated Jodi.
“They had a contest called Unstoppable Moms, and I thought: ‘That is my niece to a tee. She is definitely an unstoppable mom,” she said.
A letter was sent to New York, which shared just a few of the qualities that makes Jodi an unstoppable mom, including the work she does to help the community.
“I thought that if anyone in the whole United States would win this it would be her,” Billings said.
Out of the thousands of applicants across the country, Jodi was one of four mothers who were chosen to be a part of a web series. They sent a camera crew from New York to Jodi’s house. Now, since Jodie was a part of the web series, she won't be one of the finalists, but she has proven that she is one of the most unstoppable moms.
“Being nominated for the Unstoppable Mom award is definitely humbling and exciting,” Sorensen said.
But Jodi said any mother would be a great nominee for the contest.
“All moms are unstoppable, any mom that wakes up every morning and tries is unstoppable,” she said.
