SALT LAKE CITY -- Police are investigating after shots were fired into a Salt Lake City home early Friday morning.

Officers said the incident happened around 1 a.m at a home near 1200 South and 100 West.

The homeowners told officers they heard a commotion outside. When they went to investigate they found someone had thrown a propane tank on their front lawn, and there were several men standing in the street. That's when the barrage of bullets started to hit the home. The suspects then fled from the scene in two cars.

Police recovered nearly a dozen shell casings from 9 millimeter and 45 caliber bullets at the scene. The homeowner said he believes more than 18 rounds hit his house, and one went through his TV.

No one in the home was injured in the shooting.

Officers said there's no clear motive for the shooting, but gang detectives have now taken over the case.
