RICHFIELD, Utah — A 9-year-old girl is in the hospital after she was accidentally shot by her 8-year-old cousin Tuesday.
Officers said the accident happened around 3:45 p.m. while the two cousins were sitting in the backseat of a vehicle travelling south on Main Street in Richfield.
According to police, an 8-year-old boy accidentally shot his cousin in the abdomen with a .45 caliber handgun. They said the bullet exited the girl and exited the vehicle.
Officers said the girl is expected to be fine, and is currently in stable condition.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
