SPANISH FORK, Utah -- Two Utah police officers are being honored Wednesday.
A K-9 center is being built in honor of Sgt. Cory Wride and Deputy Greg Sherwood. Wride was shot and killed while in the line of duty in January, and Sherwood is still recovering from his injuries after being shot on the same day.
The K-9 center has been in the works for years, but the recent tragedy involving Wride and Sherwood put more of a spotlight on the project.
Sherwood, his wife, Gina, and Wride's wife Nanette participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility.
"He had a real passion for this," Nanette Wride said. "I think that he would just be doing back flips! He would love it!"
Officials with the Utah County Sheriff's Office said they plan to have the center up and running by this summer.
FOX 13's Tamara Vaifanua was there for the ceremony. Watch her full report in the clip above.
