SALT LAKE CITY -- A teen collided with a truck while longboarding in Salt Lake City Friday afternoon, and police officials at the scene said the teen died.
The accident occurred around 2:20 p.m. near 1300 East and 1300 South, and 1300 East was closed in that area as the accident was being investigated.
Police officials told FOX 13 News the victim is a 15-year-old male who was a student at East High School, which is a few blocks away from the scene of the crash.
Det. Veronica Montoya, Salt Lake City Police Department, spoke about the crash.
"Well, right now all we know is that we had a vehicle, a truck, that was headed northbound on 1300 East, and we had a male juvenile westbound on a longboard, and in the intersection is when they both collided, of course leading to the death of a young man here."
Montoya said investigators are on the scene to determine what lead up to the crash. She said several teens who were in the area are being interviewed. Montoya said she believes the teens were friends of the victim but said she had not spoken with them personally. The victim's name has not been released.
