SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City Police Dept. paid tribute to its fallen officers on Thursday.

A gala celebration at the Public Safety Building honored both officers who lost their lives and current officers. More than 600 people attended the event, which was presented by the Salt Lake City Police Foundation.

“The thing that is really most important is the fact that I am personally represented by people from both the past and present that do an outstanding job and are committed to the well-being of Salt Lake City, so this is our opportunity to say thank you very much and to really recognize the good work that happens each and every day,” said Salt Lake City Police Chris Burbank.

There were also Purple Hearts given out, which is a new medal for the department.
