TOOELE COUNTY, Utah – A man was taken to a hospital in critical condition after a small explosion at a magnesium plant Wednesday night.

Bucky Whitehouse with Tooele County Emergency Management said there was a small explosion at the U.S. Magnesium Plant at about 7:30 p.m.

Emergency personnel responding to the scene found a male in his 40s who suffered burns on his head and chest and who inhaled superheated air. The man was taken by medical helicopter to the University of Utah burn center.

Two people were injured at U.S. Magnesium in February after an explosion.

Whitehouse said officials with Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate. FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
