SANTAQUIN, Utah — A grass fire near I-15 in the Santaquin area temporarily affected traffic on the freeway Friday morning, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

The fire burned close to I-15 near mile post 244. UDOT said shortly after 10 a.m. the grass fire was no longer affecting traffic.

Battalion Chief Brad Pearl, Santaquin Fire Department, said three crews responded to several spot fires around 9:30 a.m. He said crews were able to extinguish the flames while protecting a nearby orchard. There were no reported property damages.

Pearl said the fire looked suspicious but said they don’t have any evidence either way regarding a potential cause.
